National Margarita Day – ¡Ole!

With National Margarita Day quickly approaching on February 22, it’s only appropriate to make plans that involve you holding a margarita with your best friend at your side. While the classic margarita was invented back in the 1930s or 1940s, the frozen margarita dates back to the 1970s. No one knows who exactly invented the original margarita or who came up with the idea for Margarita Day, but we’re sure glad about both!

So what are some of the most fabulous ways to celebrate if you’re staying in?

Dress the part

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean you have to wear sweats or yoga pants. Sport some colorful margarita gear, such as a margarita-themed t-shirt.

Treat yourself to a margarita maker
If you have some extra cash lying around, celebrate Margarita Day by purchasing a margarita maker. Sure it may seem a little expensive, but think about it. You and your best friend can make margaritas at home whenever you want and not have to worry about spending $10 for each one in a restaurant. It’ll pay you back in no time.

Make margaritas
What would Margarita Day be without the great drink? There are so many different ones out there that you can both try several different recipes and find which one each of you likes best. If you’re worried about calories, there are skinny versions of the above recipes, including one for a skinny margarita. Bottoms up!

Add color
Regular salt is fine for your margarita, but in honor of the “holiday,” switch it up a bit by adding color to the rim of your glass. Colored margarita rim salt is a fun way to brighten up your glass and drink.

Toss a Margherita Pizza
So a Margherita Pizza may not be the same margarita, but if the two of you will have to eat something for your girl’s night, it may as well be delicious carb goodness.

Whip up a dessert
If you’re having dinner and drinks for Margarita Day, you may as well end it on a good note – by eating dessert of course! These margarita gelatin filled strawberries or margarita cheesecake are fantastic options.

Now if you’re planning on going out, there are also numerous ways to celebrate.

Wear your margarita pride
While you can, of course, still wear the aforementioned margarita t-shirt, you can’t go out without something to put your phone, wallet, and keys in. Don’t forget a margarita bag! If you’re feeling bold, you can even wear a margarita party hat.

Find the best margaritas in town
Foodandwine.com came up with a list of America’s best margarita bars, but if one of those locations isn’t near you, a simple Internet search of “best margaritas” along with the name of the biggest city near you will pull up some great results.

Find a margarita party
If you check the official website of National Margarita Day, they have a convenient “Find a party” page where you can search by state to find restaurants and bars in your area that are prepping for the big day.

Should you and your friend decide you want to have a few margaritas, check yelp.com for cab numbers in your area so you can get home safe and enjoy Margarita Day next year.
